BBQ Chicken On the Grill Recipe: Simple, Juicy, and Always Crowd-Pleasing

When it comes to BBQ chicken, one thing makes all the difference: the sauce. At G-Mom’s, we don’t mess around. Whether you like a little sweetness, a touch of heat, or something with real fire, we’ve got you covered. G-Mom’s BBQ Chicken On the Grill Recipe is built around one thing, flavor, and it shines with every brush of our Mild, Medium, or Hot BBQ sauces.

If you’ve ever tried grilling BBQ chicken breasts or thighs and ended up with burnt sauce or dry meat, this recipe’s for you. With just a little prep and a steady grill, you’ll get juicy, smoky chicken every time, and your choice of sauce turns it into something worth repeating week after week.

What Sets G-Mom’s Recipe Apart?

BBQ chicken can go wrong fast: too dry, too saucy, not enough seasoning. But G-Mom’s BBQ Chicken On the Grill Recipe keeps things simple and foolproof.

Boneless, skinless chicken cooks faster…and dries out faster too if you’re not careful. That’s why we’ve adjusted the method to keep everything moist and flavorful from the first sear to the final sauce. Whether you’re a fan of juicy thighs or tender breasts, this recipe delivers every time. Whatever kind of chicken you choose, one thing remains the same: we finish with a generous brush of G-Mom’s BBQ Sauce, Mild for the crowd-pleaser, Medium for a classic kick, and Hot for those who like their BBQ with a little attitude.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs and/or breasts

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil

  • Salt and pepper

  • G-Mom’s BBQ Sauce – choose Mild, Medium, or Hot

  • G-Mom’s BBQ Sauce – choose Mild, Medium, or Hot (or try all three)

Step 1: Prep the Chicken

Start by patting the chicken dry. This helps with browning and keeps it from steaming on the grill.

Spread the chicken out on a cookie sheet and drizzle the oil on each piece. Flip the chicken and repeat. Use a brush, or your hands, to rub the oil in. Each piece of chicken should be generously coated in oil. Sprinkle the salt and pepper over each piece. Let it sit at room temp for 15–20 minutes, this small step helps it cook more evenly.

Step 2: Set Up the Grill

It always helps to start with a clean grill. It doesn’t need to be sparkling but take a minute to burn off old grease and give it a good brush before adding your chicken to the grill rack. This is also a good time to grab a spray bottle of water to keep on hand while grilling.

Set your grill to medium heat. For boneless cuts, you can cook directly over the flame, just be mindful of flare-ups, thus the water bottle.

If using gas, preheat one side to medium and keep the other side lower, in case you need to shift things around. For charcoal, spread an even layer of coals and keep a cooler spot off to one side.

Step 3: Grill Time

For boneless thighs:

  • Grill for 4–5 minutes per side

  • Internal temperature should reach 165°F

For boneless breasts:

  • Flatten thicker portions slightly for even cooking

  • Grill for 5–6 minutes per side

  • Target 165°F inside

Turn the chicken only once or twice to keep it juicy. If the grill flares up or pieces start to brown too fast, move them to the cooler part of the grill.

Step 4: Sauce and Finish

Once the chicken is nearly done, brush on G-Mom’s BBQ Sauce—generously but not too thick.

  • Mild: Perfect for kids and folks who love sweet, smoky BBQ without spice.

  • Medium: Our balanced classic—just enough heat to keep it interesting.

  • Hot: Bold and spicy for the brave. It kicks, but it’s smooth too.

Let the sauce caramelize for 1–2 minutes per side. Keep the grill open so you can watch closely. BBQ sauce burns fast, and we want glossy, not charred.

Step 5: Rest and Serve

Once the chicken’s cooked and sauced, take it off the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes. This gives the juices time to settle and keeps each bite tender.

Slice into strips, serve whole, or chop for sandwiches, salads, or bowls. The flavor holds up beautifully.

Serving Ideas

Here’s how we love to serve G-Mom’s BBQ Chicken On the Grill:
